SCORM Cloud alternative

AllureConnect vs SCORM Cloud

Compare the economics and operating model behind two hosted learning platforms. AllureConnect is built for multi-course, multi-tenant delivery; SCORM Cloud brings broader standards support and a deeply established testing ecosystem.

The short answer

AllureConnect is more attractive for multi-course, multi-tenant learning products where per-registration costs multiply. SCORM Cloud remains stronger for broader standards support, mature testing workflows, and buyers prioritizing Rustici’s product history.

Choose by operating model

Which product fits the job?

Choose AllureConnect when…

  • The same learners take several courses and you want one active-learner billing unit.
  • You need child workspaces, rolled-up billing, and per-customer provisioning.
  • Signed webhooks, retry visibility, and replay are part of your application architecture.
  • You want runtime, dispatch, LRS, evidence, and platform APIs in one hosted backend.

Choose SCORM Cloud when…

  • cmi5, AICC, LTI, or broader media support is required now.
  • Your main job is testing and debugging standards-based packages.
  • You value Rustici’s long operating history and established support ecosystem.
  • Your registration model and existing contract already fit your economics.
One-new-registration-per-learner scenarios

Start with explicit list-price math.

These scenarios assume each active learner creates one new learner-course registration in the month and that the active course catalog stays within the matching AllureConnect allowance. A learner taking several new courses creates several SCORM Cloud registrations, so use the calculator below for your actual course mix.

250 learners · 1 new registration each

Starter: $49

SCORM Cloud Big: $360 within its included registration allowance.

AllureConnect is 86% lower in this scenario.
1,500 learners · 1 new registration each

Growth: $149

SCORM Cloud Big: $840 including 1,200 registrations above its allowance.

AllureConnect is 82% lower in this scenario.
7,500 learners · 1 new registration each

Scale: $499

SCORM Cloud Bigger: $1,975 including 3,500 registrations above its allowance.

AllureConnect is 75% lower in this scenario.
Model your actual billing units

Change the course and association assumptions.

Set active learners, courses per learner, and the share of learner-course associations that are new. The calculator keeps both billing units explicit.

015,000
Comparable usage: Allure counts 3,000 distinct active learners once this billing period and models 75 active courses as non-billed capacity guidance; archive timing is not modeled, so the selected courses are assumed active for the full billing period. SCORM Cloud creates 3,000 registrations: 3,000 learners × 1 course × 100% new learner-course associations. Returning associations and relaunches do not create new SCORM Cloud registrations.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is AllureConnect a complete replacement for SCORM Cloud?

Not for every team. AllureConnect covers the core SCORM 1.2 and 2004 hosting, launch, dispatch, tracking, xAPI, and API-driven paths. Choose SCORM Cloud when cmi5, AICC, LTI, broader media support, or its mature testing ecosystem is a requirement.

When does per-active-learner pricing help?

It matters when the same learner uses more than one course in a billing period. AllureConnect counts that learner once; SCORM Cloud creates a registration for each new learner-course association. Returning to an existing SCORM Cloud registration does not create another charge, so model your real new-association rate rather than assuming every launch is new.

Can I validate a migration before changing production?

Yes. Start with one representative SCORM package in the free sandbox, verify its launch and tracking behavior, and test the target delivery path. Package portability does not guarantee that every dispatch, historical record, or downstream LMS behavior transfers without validation.

Which product has the stronger standards footprint?

SCORM Cloud does today. It supports cmi5, AICC, LTI, and additional media types that AllureConnect does not currently support. AllureConnect is focused on supported SCORM delivery, integrated xAPI, modern automation, and multi-tenant platform infrastructure.

Do both products offer a free way to test?

Yes. AllureConnect offers a free development sandbox with 25 active learners per month, three packages, watermarked output, and 30-day package expiry. SCORM Cloud offers a permanent Trial plan with ten resettable active registrations, three courses, and a 5 GB storage limit.

Test the path that matters before you switch.

Content teams can bring a real client-LMS delivery problem. Builders can open a sandbox and exercise the API with a representative package.
