FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Allure Connect SCORM hosting, pricing, API integration, content dispatch, and migration from other platforms.

General

What is Allure Connect?

Allure Connect is the delivery product in the Allure learning family. It hosts SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 courses, dispatches them into supported customer LMSs with seat caps and expiry, records xAPI 1.0.3 statements, and gives developers a hosted REST API to launch and track learning.

What is the difference between Allure Connect and SCORM Cloud?

Allure Connect and Rustici SCORM Cloud both host SCORM content and both publish self-serve pricing. Allure Connect adds a developer-first REST API with OpenAPI documentation, PPT-to-SCORM conversion, a free developer sandbox with test API keys, and multi-tenant workspace isolation. The biggest difference is the billing unit: SCORM Cloud bills per registration (one learner enrolled in one course, so multi-course learners count multiple times), while Allure Connect counts an active learner once per billing period across every course they take.

Who is Allure Connect built for?

Allure Connect serves three primary audiences. Content providers and training companies that need to distribute courses to client LMSs without giving away source files. L&D teams that need to host and track SCORM content across their organization. And developers building learning platforms, LMS integrations, or training marketplaces who need a reliable SCORM API.

Can I use Allure Connect with my existing LMS?

Yes. Allure Connect dispatch packages work alongside LMSs that accept SCORM imports, including platforms such as Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, and Cornerstone. Your content stays hosted on Allure Connect while learners access it through their familiar LMS interface. Allure Connect does not currently provide cmi5, LTI 1.3, or AICC delivery.

What problems does Allure Connect solve?

Allure Connect eliminates the need to build and maintain custom SCORM infrastructure. Instead of duct-taping together your own hosting, player, and tracking layer — or scattering content across multiple LMSs with fragmented analytics — Allure Connect gives you a single platform for uploading, hosting, dispatching, and tracking SCORM content. You get unified analytics, a standards-compliant runtime, and a developer-friendly API without the infrastructure overhead.

Can I use Allure Connect without an LMS?

Yes. You do not need an LMS to use Allure Connect. Upload a SCORM package and generate a hosted player URL or an API launch token. Share the URL directly with learners or embed it in any web application. Allure Connect handles the SCORM runtime, session tracking, and completion reporting independently of any LMS.

What's the difference between SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004?

SCORM 1.2 is the most widely supported version and uses a simpler data model with fields like cmi.core.lesson_status and cmi.core.score.raw. It supports basic bookmarking via suspend data but has no built-in sequencing rules. SCORM 2004 introduces a richer data model (API_1484_11), adds sequencing and navigation for multi-SCO courses, and supports more granular completion and success tracking. Allure Connect supports both SCORM 1.2 and all four editions of SCORM 2004 on every plan.

Getting Started

How do I get started with Allure Connect?

Sign up at app.allureconnect.com to get a free developer sandbox — no credit card required. You receive test API keys (prefixed actest) with the same API surface as production. Upload a SCORM package, generate a launch URL, and test the full workflow. When you are ready for production, upgrade to a paid plan starting at $49/month.

Does Allure Connect have a free tier?

Allure Connect offers a free developer sandbox for testing and integration development. The sandbox includes 25 active learners per month, 3 packages, 5 GB storage, and test API keys. Output is watermarked and packages expire after 30 days. There is no time limit on the sandbox itself — you can use it as long as you need to build and validate your integration before upgrading to a production plan.

How do I host SCORM content without building my own player?

Allure Connect includes a hosted SCORM player. Upload your SCORM ZIP package through the dashboard or API, and Allure Connect returns a launch URL. Embed that URL in an iframe or redirect learners to it. Allure Connect handles manifest parsing, SCORM runtime communication, session tracking, suspend data persistence, and completion reporting — no custom player code required.

How do I migrate from SCORM Cloud to Allure Connect?

Export your SCORM packages from SCORM Cloud as ZIP files, then upload them to Allure Connect through the dashboard or the API presigned upload flow (POST /api/v1/packages/upload-url, PUT to storage, then POST /api/v1/packages/process). Allure Connect validates the manifest on upload. Update your dispatch links or LMS configurations to point to Allure Connect launch URLs. Historical learner data does not transfer automatically, but new sessions are tracked after migration.

Pricing & Plans

How much does SCORM hosting cost?

Allure Connect production plans start at $49/month for Starter, which includes 250 active learners per month, 25 packages, and 10 GB storage. Growth is $149/month for 1,500 active learners, and Scale is $499/month for 7,500 active learners. Enterprise terms are custom. Every current plan includes SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI 1.0.3 statement ingestion, API access, and webhooks.

What is the cheapest SCORM hosting platform?

Allure Connect offers production plans starting at $49/month. Note that Allure Connect bills on active learners (one person counted once per billing period), while Rustici SCORM Cloud bills per registration (one learner in one course) — a different unit, so compare against your own catalog. The free developer sandbox lets you build and test your integration before committing to a paid plan.

What happens to my data if I cancel Allure Connect?

Cancellation changes subscription access; it is not an automatic data-deletion request. Export the records you need before cancelling, and contact support about account deletion and the retention rules that apply to your workspace. You can cancel anytime. Refunds: annual plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first annual payment; monthly plans run to the end of the paid period, with no partial refunds. See Terms: refunds.

Can I white-label Allure Connect?

Yes. Growth includes a custom domain and optional white-label; Scale and Enterprise include full white-label: a custom domain for your hosted player, branded player UI with your logo and colors, and removal of Allure Connect branding from learner-facing pages. Contact sales for Enterprise white-label configuration.

Technical

What SCORM standards does Allure Connect support?

Allure Connect supports SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 (all editions), and xAPI statement ingestion today. SCORM packages are validated before learners launch them. Our tested LRS implementation passed the ADL xAPI 2.0 suite: 1,435 passed, zero failures. The June 6 result used a local in-memory test configuration. A current hosted-release claim requires a fresh run in an isolated, production-equivalent environment. cmi5, LTI 1.3, and AICC are target standards but are not currently available.

Does Allure Connect support xAPI?

Yes. Allure Connect supports xAPI 1.0.3 (Experience API, also known as Tin Can API) on every current plan. xAPI statements are stored in an integrated Learning Record Store (LRS) and surfaced in the analytics dashboard. cmi5 package launch and session management are not currently available.

Is there a SCORM hosting API?

Yes. Allure Connect provides a comprehensive REST API documented with OpenAPI/Swagger at /api/docs. The API supports package upload and management, launch URL generation, learner session retrieval, dispatch link creation, webhook configuration, and tenant management. Authenticate with Bearer token API keys issued from the dashboard. A developer sandbox with test keys is available for free.

What is SCORM dispatch?

SCORM dispatch lets you distribute hosted SCORM content to third-party LMSs without sharing your source files. Allure Connect generates a dispatch link — a lightweight SCORM package that redirects to Allure Connect-hosted content. Upload the dispatch link to any client LMS. Learner data flows back to Allure Connect. You can revoke access, push updates, and track usage per client, all from one place.

Can I dispatch SCORM content to multiple LMSs?

Yes. Allure Connect dispatch lets you send one SCORM package to many LMS endpoints; verify each target LMS and version before rollout. Each dispatch link tracks learner activity independently. Update the source package once and every dispatched instance receives the update. You can revoke individual dispatch links without affecting others.

Can I convert PowerPoint to SCORM?

Yes. Allure Connect includes a PPT-to-SCORM conversion API. Upload a PowerPoint file through the dashboard or the API, and Allure Connect converts it into a valid SCORM 1.2 package with slide-based navigation, completion tracking, and launch URL generation. Conversion limits vary by plan: 10/month on Starter, 50/month on Growth, and 200/month on Scale.

What webhook events does Allure Connect support?

Allure Connect sends signed webhook events for package lifecycle events (for example processed, version activated, archived and launched), learner session events (completed, failed, suspended), and dispatch events (created, updated, paused, resumed, extended, expired, restored, archived, deleted). See Webhook events for the current list. Webhook payloads include HMAC signatures for verification. Failed deliveries are automatically retried with exponential backoff and dead-letter logging.

How does Allure Connect handle multi-tenant data?

Allure Connect uses workspace-level tenant isolation. Each workspace has its own packages, learner data, API keys, dispatch links, analytics, and billing. Data is logically isolated at the database level — no workspace can access another workspace's content or learner records. API keys are scoped to a single workspace. This architecture supports content providers managing multiple client organizations from one account.

Can I host VR training content?

Allure Connect can host a VR experience when it is delivered as a compatible SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 package. Test the package and browser requirements against your target LMS and devices before rollout. xAPI 1.0.3 statement ingestion is available through the integrated LRS, but Allure Connect does not currently accept or launch cmi5 packages.

Should I use xAPI or SCORM?

It depends on your use case. SCORM 1.2 is broadly supported, but package and dispatch compatibility must be verified against each target LMS and version before production rollout. xAPI uses a richer statement model for learning activity data beyond a traditional SCORM runtime. Allure Connect supports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 package hosting, and xAPI 1.0.3 statement ingestion is included on every current plan. The current standards boundary still applies: cmi5 package launch and session management are not available.

Can I export all my learner data from Allure Connect?

Yes. Allure Connect supports full data portability with no vendor lock-in. Export learner session data through the REST API, download CSV reports from the dashboard, or configure signed webhook events to send recorded completion and score updates to your own systems. All data associated with your workspace is exportable at any time.

How does Allure Connect compare to Watershed LRS?

Watershed is a Learning Record Store (LRS) focused on xAPI analytics, reporting, and data visualization. Allure Connect is a SCORM hosting platform that handles content storage, delivery, runtime, dispatch, and tracking — with xAPI support included. They serve different primary needs: Watershed excels at aggregating and analyzing xAPI data from multiple sources, while Allure Connect excels at hosting and delivering SCORM content. The two can complement each other — Allure Connect can forward xAPI statements to Watershed for advanced analytics.

Security & Compliance

Is Allure Connect SOC 2 compliant?

Allure Connect does not hold a SOC 2 attestation or an ISO 27001 certification. What we do: HTTPS/TLS on every domain; workspace-scoped access controls; signed storage URLs and signed webhook payloads; named infrastructure vendors with their own published security practices (Convex, Vercel, Cloudflare R2, Stripe, Resend and Sentry); and an internal incident-response process. Contact sales for the current security materials and the DPA template.

Compliance & Data

How does Allure Connect support GDPR obligations?

Allure Connect provides GDPR-ready processor controls for customer workspaces, including tenant isolation, learner data exports, auditable privacy-request tracking, retention evidence, and erasure workflows that anonymize operational learner records without breaking dispatch history. Customer administrators can submit and track access, portability, correction, restriction, objection, and erasure requests from the authenticated product or through support.

Is Allure Connect HIPAA compliant?

Allure Connect is not a default HIPAA offering. For HIPAA-regulated workloads that involve protected health information (PHI), contact sales before uploading data so we can review scope, contracts, subprocessors, and deployment requirements.

Does Allure Connect offer a Data Processing Agreement (DPA)?

A DPA template, subprocessor register, and vendor evidence register are maintained for customer review. Enterprise customers should complete DPA, transfer, and subprocessor review before using Allure Connect for EU personal data at production scale.

What's Allure Connect's uptime SLA?

Allure Connect does not advertise a standard public uptime SLA today. Any contractual availability targets, service credits, or support terms must be agreed in writing before purchase. Current and historical service observations are published on the Allure Connect status page.

Analytics & Reporting

What analytics does Allure Connect provide?

Allure Connect provides learner analytics including completion rates, score distributions, time-on-task, session counts, and pass/fail breakdowns. Data is available through the dashboard and the REST API. Every current plan includes an xAPI 1.0.3 Learning Record Store (LRS) for statement-level analytics.
